We’re B Corp Certified

July 24th, 2025

We’re over the moon to finally be able to say we’re now a B Corp – ‘a purpose-driven company that meets high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. That positively impacts all stakeholders – workers, communities, customers, and our planet.’ As Stitch Richardson (MD / EP) says:

“We are now B Corp. It feels incredible to be able to say that. It’s taken us the best part of three years to get here, but the journey has been just as important as the end result in terms of what we’ve learned.

We started this process because we wanted the business to reflect our personal values more closely. We were making rewarding and recognised work, but we weren’t always comfortable with how the wider industry treats people or the planet. It didn’t sit right with us.

As business owners (myself, Greg Hackett and Tim Swaby) we’ve always tried to keep in mind where we came from. We didn’t grow up in London, we didn’t have money or family in the industry. That experience has shaped how we want to run Spindle: to create opportunities for people who might not otherwise get a foot in the door, and to run a company that does more good than harm.

During lockdown, Greg sat opposite his wife Oa Hackett, who runs Littlelifts, one of the fastest-growing charities in the UK, and that really cemented it. What impact were we having? Who were we helping? What were we building?

The first time we applied, back in 2021, we didn’t pass. Looking back, we had the right intentions, but we hadn’t done enough to turn those into real action.

So we got to work.

We launched People & Planet, a set of public commitments we report on every year. We created Open Studios, to offer a way in for young people who don’t have the right connections. We started tracking and offsetting our carbon footprint, using tools like AdGreen. We joined 1% for the Planet, committing 1% of our turnover to environmental causes.

Internally, we rewrote all our policies from the ground up, introducing uncapped holiday, private healthcare and better support for mental and physical wellbeing, because how we treat people matters as much as what we produce.

In 2022, we were lucky to be joined by our fourth partner, Emily Jordan-Wilson, who we instantly connected with, in part due to our shared values. And earlier this year, we legally updated our company structure to hold ourselves accountable to a triple bottom line: people, planet and profit. Not just the latter.

In June, we became a certified B Corp, with a score of 92.5 (pass mark: 80). We’re proud of that. But we’re under no illusions, we still feel like we’re at the starting line. There’s still a huge amount for us to learn and improve on.

If your company is exploring a similar path and wants to understand more about our journey, we’d be happy to share whatever we’ve learned. Just drop us a line.”
